The Long Walk applauds Victorian Premier Denis Napthine’s call for an education program to help young people understand the history of Indigenous communities and their great contribution to our country to promote racial respect.

The Premier made these comments on The Long Walk with Michael Long in Melbourne on Saturday night before the AFL’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash between Richmond and Essendon.

This goes to the heart of the purpose of The Long Walk, to raise awareness, break down barriers and promote understanding between black and white Australia.

The Long Walk invites the Premier, and encourages all Australians, to learn more about The Long Walk's schools’ program, Walk the Talk. The Long Walk calls on the Premier to ensure Walk the Talk is shared throughout every school in Victoria.

Walk the Talk tells the story of Michael’s historic walk to Canberra as a way to promote understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and encourage students to create change.

Michael Long was joined by Victorian Premier Denis Napthine and over 10,000 walkers in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their achievements. The Long Walk thanks all who helped make it a success including  the volunteers, artists, members, schools, supporters and walkers and our partners, FAHCSIA, Recognise and City of Melbourne.

The Long Walk looks forward to everyone joining the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Michael Long’s walk to Canberra in 2014.
