Essendon will challenge Dylan Shiel's two-week ban for his high bump on North Melbourne's Curtis Taylor at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

Shiel's bump in Essendon's win on Saturday night was graded as careless conduct, high contact and high impact.

Taylor returned to the field following the incident and was cleared of any damage after an MRI scan on Monday to assess a potential facial fracture.

Should the bump be downgraded from high to medium impact, Shiel will escape with a one-match ban.

Essendon faces the Western Bulldogs at Metricon Stadium this Friday night.
