Wellman was forced from the ground in last Saturday night's Wizard Cup semi-final against St Kilda. Post-match the left foot was heavily strapped and he was on crutches.Had today's can revealed a broken bone in the foot, Wellman could have been sidelined for up to 10 weeks.
Mark Mercuri had a minor hiccup to his 2004 pre-season last Saturday night, when he strained his hamstring. He will be back in three weeks and his form has indicated that he is on course for a big season. The coaching panel’s decision to move him to the back pocket could be one of the most important moves of the year. His ability to find the football will be invaluable deep in defence and his vision and foot skills will ensure he creates opportunities further up the field. If he finds his best form, look out.
