BOMBERS QUICK OFF THE MARK
Speed is an important part of Australian Rules Football and Essendon Football Club will soon be home to a state-of-the-art indoor running track that will ensure its players are well prepared in this department. The 35-metre long, imported running track is being laid on the mezzanine level of the refurbished Essendon gymnasium. Work on the track began this week and is expected to be completed by later this month.

The track surface meets International Athletic Federation guidelines. ""It will be used for our speed testing and speed training and we think it will be very beneficial for our players,"" Essendon fitness coach John Quinn said. ""It will also be used for some of our rehabiliation work and to compliment our weights program.""
And Essendon fans need not worry that speeding Bomber players will be ploughing into the wall at the end of the track. As with indoor athletics meetings, a high jump mat will be placed against the wall at the end of the track for the players to run in to.
Head weights coach Glenn Turner has been busy over the break answering questions about the Build up with the Bombers weights program. The program is in its fifth week now and the aim of this week is to work on strength levels as well as muscle growth. ""I hope you are enjoying the weights program and starting to feel the benefits of your hard work. Keep focussed and having fun!,"" Turner said.
