""I can only ask Matthew and he has selected himself and I think that is fair enough. It’s his arm, so its up to him to know how his own arm feels and he would know in his own heart,"" Kevin Sheedy said at the Bombers training session this afternoon.
Lloyd participated in the teams match play work at training today and sported a custom made brace that he will wear this Sunday.
""He mainly needs to get the feel and the touch of the game, he hasn’t played for a while,"" Sheedy said.
The Bombers trained on the MCG for the first time this season in preparation for their Round 3 clash against the Hawks. And while Essendon looks to be the more fancied team for the weekend, Sheedy is not taking his opposition lightly.
""They (Hawthorn) should of won last week, I thought they played pretty well. They had a few mishaps in the last few minutes but generally they played a competent game, they used the ball pretty well and they ran through the lines,"" Sheedy said.
And it seems the coach will face some selection dilemmas over the next few days.
Dean Rioli looks like a certain to return to football this weekend, but whether it is for Essendon could be another matter.
""Dean’s close, it will be up to whether we want to play Rioli or not, he might play in the Bendigo seconds, but he’ll definitely play this week,"" the coach indicated.
But whether or not Rioli plays, Sheedy hinted there may be up to three changes this weekend. Names he threw into the mix included Ben Haynes who kicked five goals for Bendigo last weekend and Andrew Lovett.
If Lovett does get the call up it will be his AFL debut; having only been elevated from the Rookie list last week after Andrew Lee was out on the long-term injury list with Osteitis Pubis.
Jason Laycock impressed at training after having surgery late in the pre-season and looks to be a starter against Hawthorn. During match play he looked convincing in the ruck and pushed forward to taking a couple of strong marks.
