Jason Johnson has been a regular on stage accepting awards at the Crichton Medal in recent years. In 2001 he won the best and fairest award, in 2002 he was runner-up and this season he took third place. Following is Johnson's acceptance speech from Wednesday night's Crichton Medal at Palladium Ballroom at Crown. ""I didn't really think I would be standing up here this year. It was one of those years where I thought I was fairly consistent, but didn't feel that I had an outstanding year,"" Johnson said.

""Congratulations to Scotty and Hirdy. As a captain, Hirdy is just a great leader and any player to play 16 games and do so well in the Brownlow is outstanding. We just hope he can play a full season and he will probably win a premiership, a Brownlow and a fifth best and fairest. To Scotty, you had a great season and worked really hard. I think it is fair to say that you have had a lot of knockers and don't receive the credit you deserve, so congratulations Scotty.

""I dedicate this third place to a pretty good friend of mine at the club - to Adam (Ramanauskas), there is no doubt that if you had of got through the season, you would have been standing up here because you started the season so well. You are the reason that we came back in the second half of the season and we certainly have something to look forward to next year if everyone can stick together.

""I would like to thank all of the supporters, week in, and week out you are there for us. To all the medical staff at the football club, I would also like to thank you. I probably spent a little bit too much time in there in the second half of the year and couldn't get out on the track as much as I wanted to. I would also like to thank the trainers. You play a big part and would like to thank you for your time and everything you have done for me over the last six to seven years.

""To my family, they have been great and I wouldn't be standing up here today if it wasn't for my mum, dad and brother Ben. To those guys, I love you very much and would like to thank you.""
