Although the team would prefer to still be in the pre-season competition, with only four weeks remaining until Round One things are starting to get serious at Windy Hill. The coaching staff will use the next couple of weeks to assess where the youngers players in terms of their development.
In a solid 90 minute training session this morning, the Bombers focused on different skills with interval running periods. Matthew Lloyd, James Hird, Jason Johnson and Dean Rioli all trained strongly but will again be rested for this weekend’s match, with Sheedy to give his young charges another opportunity to show their worth.
""We still have to see if the young players can really put their hands up and play in some serious footy.""
""We’ll bring up a bit of a mixture, we’ll bring in players like Alvey who have played AFL footy and Benny Haynes, those sort of players that have played 20-60 games."" Sheedy said.
After quiet performances from some of the younger players against the Blues on Sunday night, the coach isn’t too concerned about how it will affect their games against Richmond.
""It’s very rare that you send eight out there and you get a 100% result, but if you said that possibly 50% of them did then that’s a good result if they continue on this week they get a little better.""
""A lot of form at that age is confidence and self belief, and I think that is what this period of time is, when you’re not in the Wizard Cup, to keep looking for that next batch of young boys who are going to play well for your club."" Sheedy said.
