Essendon greats to be honoured
Essendon Football Club will induct five new Members and two Legends into its Hall of Fame at the club’s 2012 Season Launch on Monday March 19 at Peninsula Central Pier in the Docklands. Jack Jones, Graham Moss, Paul Salmon, Joe Misiti and Hugh Mitchell will join elite company when inducted as members on the night.

Jack Jones, Graham Moss, Paul Salmon, Joe Misiti and Hugh Mitchell will join elite company when inducted as members on the night.
There will also be two Legends inducted on the night as the Essendon Football Club celebrates past and present champions such as Bill Hutchison, Dick Reynolds, John Coleman, Tim Watson and James Hird.
Jack Jones
A dangerous half-forward flank, Jack Jones played during one of the club’s golden eras alongside champions including Dick Reynolds, John Coleman and Bill Hutchison. Jones played 175 games for the Bombers between 1946 and 1954 and thrilled fans with his versatility, speed and his high-marking and long kicking. Jones played a club record 133 consecutive games between 1946 and 1952 and was a member of the 1946, 1949 and 1950 premiership sides. In total, Jones played in 18 final games and seven grand finals. Jones retired in 1954 and continues as a tour guide at the club.
Graham Moss
In his first season at Essendon in 1973, Graham Moss won the club’s best first year player award and was runner up in the Brownlow Medal count. Moss went on to win the club’s best and fairest award for the next three consecutive seasons as well as the Brownlow Medal in his final season in 1976. Moss played 84 games for Essendon and booted 67 goals.
Paul Salmon
The high-flying full-forward and later ruckman made his debut for the Bombers in 1983 and had a decorated League career which spanned 19 seasons and 324 games. Salmon kicked six goals in the 1985 premiership win over Hawthorn and was a key member of the 1993 ‘Baby Bombers’ premiership side. Salmon represented Victoria 13 times between 1984 and 1993 and was selected in the All-Australian team in 1987, 1988 and 1997. Salmon retired in 2002 after 224 games for Essendon. (Salmon played 100 games for Hawthorn between 1996 and 2000)
Joe Misiti
“Smokin” Joe Misiti made an immediate impact with Essendon after collecting 27 disposals on debut against North Melbourne in 1992. Misiti’s prolific possession winning abilities and accurate passing saw him emerge as one of the best midfielders in the competition in the 1990s. He was a member of the Bombers’ 1993 and 2000 premiership teams. The ever popular Misiti retired at the end of the 2004 season after 236 games for the Bombers.
Hugh Mitchell
Hugely influential ruck-rover, Hughie Mitchell made his debut for Essendon in 1953. Mitchell won the club’s best and fairest award in 1959 and was three times the club’s leading goal kicker: 1955, 1961 and 1964, he was also equal second in the 1959 Brownlow medal count. Mitchell was named among Essendon’s best in the 1962 premiership side and won a second premiership medal in 1965. He was made Bombers’ vice captain in 1963. Mitchell played 224 games for Essendon and booted 306 goals before retiring in 1967.
Essendon has named an experienced squad for their Round 3 NAB Cup clash with Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Friday night. Defender Jason Winderlich headlines the inclusions after he was named for his first game since injurying his knee in round 4 against Carlton last season.
