The Long Walk is proud to announce Jessie Mabo, daughter of landrights activist Eddie (Koiki) Mabo is the keynote speaker at The Long WalkWomen’s Luncheon to be held in Melbourne on Friday 12 October, 2012.

In the 20thanniversary year of the historic Mabo decision, Jessie Mabo will give a familyperspective on the 10 year court case and encourage women to step up toleadership roles.

The Long Walk is a charityinspired by AFL champion Michael Long’s walk to Canberra to get the lives ofAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people back on the national agenda.The charity’s purpose is to raise awareness for Aboriginal and Torres StraitIslander wellbeing.

The Long Walk Women’s Luncheon isa celebration of the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanderwomen. A unique awareness -raising event, the luncheon brings togetherAboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal women from all walks oflife to be inspired, celebrate, network and have a good time.

The Long Walk Women’s Luncheon will be held at Peninsula, Central Pier,Docklands in its seventh year in Melbourne.

The luncheon in Melbournefeatures guest speakers Jessie Mabo, performer and social worker Eva JoEdwards, and actor and singer Lisa Maza will MC the event.

Michael Long, who will be in attendance at the event said “The women of theMabo family represent what The Long Walk Women’s Luncheon is all about.”

“The family worked hard, alongside Eddie Mabo, to create change and this eventcelebrates the contribution that women and their families make in communitiesright across Australia.”
