Essendon defender Courtenay Dempsey’s impressive season has been recognised with his inclusion in the Queensland Team of The Year.

Originally from Cairns, Dempsey was named at Half Back, alongside Charlie Dixon and Jarrod Harbrow from the Gold Coast.

The 25 year olds ability to shut down his opponent and provide run out of defence made him one of the most exciting players to pull on the red sash this season.

2012 has been a big year for Dempsey, his tireless work and hunger for success saw him rewarded with a new three year deal last month.

Dempsey was drafted from Morningside in Queensland with the club’s first round pick in 2005.
