21-year-old Adam Ramanauskas was easily the Bombers best player against the Kangaroos and finished with 26 kicks. He kicked a valuable goal just before half-time, after intercepting a Kangaroos kick in the Bombers forwardline - keeping Essendon in the game. ""Rama was reliable, poised and kept us in the game. Dustin Fletcher and Mark Johnson continue to be the glue that binds the defence. Blake Caracella improved as the game wore on,"" Lorenzetto said.
Essendon struggled to find winners on Friday night and Engine Room member Karole Prince said we didn't win because there was a lack of consistent players. ""There was nobody willing to stand up and be the goal scorer. A lot of goal shots were hurried and were easy shots. There was no teamwork and I felt a bit of arrogance towards the kangaroos with the thought that we always beat them,"" Prince said.
Prince agreed with Lorenzetto that Ramanauskas, Mark Johnson and Fletcher were by far the team's best performers and put in four quarters of football and said the team has a lot of improving to do before taking on Port Adelaide next Saturday night. ""We need to improve all over the ground to tighten up and show more discipline and accurate kicking for goal and around the ground. And over the next couple of weeks someone has to stand up and become a full forward a target that will kick straight. I would also like to see Shane Harvey start on the field and be given most of the game on the ground and also Jordan Bannister to be given a better deal a least he has been kicking goals,"" Prince said.
