“This pre-season has no doubt been harder than previous years, but it has also been very enjoyable. In terms of my fitness levels, I am definitely another level up on former pre-seasons, but because this particular pre-season has been massive so far, I definitely feel I have improved and certainly want to keep improving,” Hurley said.
Hurley said Brent Stanton and Sam Lonergan have been the stand outs on the track on the eve of the Christmas break.
“Brent Stanton’s running capacity is elite and the best at the club no doubt. Sam Lonergan who came back from a knee injury has shown great spirit and is running well on the track”.
Asked which assistant coach has annoyed him the most with their constant banter during drills, Hurley joked that Brendan McCartney was a man full of riddles.
“We call him the ‘riddler’ because he speaks in riddles. B-Mac knows his footy inside out so he has been absolutely great to have on board and have really enjoyed his company”.
Hurley said he will be spending Christmas in Melbourne with his extended family coming down from Queensland.
“I am in Melbourne for Christmas with the family, and extended family coming down from northern Queensland, so having Christmas at mum and dad’s will be really enjoyable and I am very much looking forward to having a few days off with my family,” he said.
