2002: 2002 was clearly Adam Ramanauskas’ best season with the Bombers, a fact confirmed when he came third in the club’s best and fairest. Ramanauskas played 23 games and was one of the team’s leading possession getters. His versatility is one of his major assets and he played in nearly every position this season apart from the ruck. When the injuries mounted to senior players in 2002, he was one of the players that put his hand up and took on an on-field leadership role.

Strengths: Ramanauskas’s skills and leg speed are damaging to the opposition. His delivery and usage of the ball means he rarely wastes a possession. He has the ability to carry the ball forward and create space from the opposition. He chases, tackles and puts enormous pressure on opposition ball carriers.

Position: Take your pick. Ramanauskas can play in a variety of positions and it doesn’t really matter where you put him he is always a solid contributor. He has played most of his football on the wing and in the mid-field. He has the speed and skill level to be damaging to opposition teams in the middle and can also float forward and kick a few goals. 2003 could see Ramanauskas take on a permanent mid-field role.

2003: Ramanauskas has the ability to dominate the competition – he has to set himself to be a permanent mid-fielder and play more of an offensive game rather than defensive. His versatility means he can play anywhere on the field and still be damaging to the opposition. He is an exciting player and talent and potentially could be the Bombers next superstar. Essendon fans are yet to see the best of Adam Ramanauskas.

Kevin Sheedys says: Great effort for Rama to come third in the club best and fairest, actually, it was a top season for him. He now needs to focus on remaining consistent to develop into the type of strong midfielder required in the AFL today. I like nothing better than to see Rama kicking the ball the way Merv Neagle did for Essendon in years gone by. There is no doubt that he is travelling extremely well pre-season and that we are expecting him to develop quickly into a leader within the team.
