Essendon Football Club is mourning the loss of AFL Ground Operations Manager Jill Lindsay, who passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer.

Jill Lindsay is the longest serving employee in the history of the VFL/AFL and the only woman honoured with Life Membership in the competition’s history.

In 1999, Jill Lindsay was named Football Woman of the Year by the Essendon Women’s network, the award recognises women that have a made a significant difference to football.

Essendon Chairman David Evans said after more than 40 years in the industry, Jill leaves behind a lasting legacy.

“Jill had a profound effect on the game of AFL football across so many levels and she will be deeply missed.” 

“Her passion for the game and the friendships she created across all the clubs and with so many people in the industry has left a lasting legacy for those who knew and worked with her”

Jill is survived by her mother Marjorie, sister Robyn Torpy and brothers Graham and Ross. Funeral details are yet to be confirmed.
