Supporting the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea and the Cancer Council Victoria’s Fundraising and Awareness Program, the Essendon Football Club administration staff enjoyed a sit down morning tea whilst hearing from inspirational guest speakers Bruce Ward and Paul Benson.
Cancer survivor and Cancer Council board member, Bruce Ward spoke at the morning tea about his long-term fight with the illness and the importance of supporting such a worthy cause. Ward, who received a President’s award for contribution to the Cancer Council of Victoria in 2009, was also nominated in 2010 by the American Cancer Society as one of its international Heroes of Hope.
Last year, Australia’s ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ raised over $10 million dollars which went towards cancer research, support services and awareness initiatives.
Essendon has a long-standing strong affliation with Cancer Council Victoria, raising nearly $223,000 at this year’s 12th annual Relay for Life- a 24-hour relay event which raises vital funds for research, education and patient support programs.
As founding partner of Cancer Council’s Call To Arms campaign, Essendon Football Club will again kick off the fight against cancer when the Bombers face Melbourne in Round 11 at the MCG.
Essendon needs passionate supporters to volunteer to help raise funds for Cancer Council Victoria.
Volunteers are required to be at the ground from 5.30pm on 3 June, and will receive full training on the day.
Every volunteer will also receive a free ticket to the game so you can catch all the action.
