Here are a few of the comments made by fans in week one.
“Ezard was the small quick forward who could change on the ball (good combination with Daisy).
Even though Roger was our tough man, can't go past the long arms & racking kicks of Fletch.
Because Roger didn't make my team we still need a strong hard man and you don't get them much tougher than Hardwick,” Garry Dibella.
“Mark Johnson would beat Alan Ezard in the air and in matters of strength whilst Ezard would beat him for pace once the ball hit the ground...a narrow win for MJ. Fletch would be able to go with Roger in the air and those gadget arms would be able to spoil. Fletch would want to avoid contests of strength as roger would win those. Fletch is more athletic and would have been able to run off roger once the ball hit the ground. Damien Hardwick was a best and fairest winner for the club whilst Franky Dunnell was a good workman like player. Dimma was probably a more skilful player as well,” Stephen Woods.
“They are all tough and hardened players... I think Roger would worry Fletcher out of the contest with his body work. Though Fletcher has been magnificent in defence for 17 seasons, he has had to stand some good forward line players in 3 GFs and has been soundly beaten. So on what Roger had produced in finals footy at Ess and Bris, as noted I think he'd worry Fletch. Mark Johnson would have equal pace and skill to Ezard but probably would have the honours in the physical stuff. Both have won club best and fairest awards. Again Hardwick is the type of player you want in the bunkers with you - tough hard and skilled player,” Nathan Bloomfield
“Tough decision between Johhno and Ezard. Johhno just gets the nod for the fear factor he imposed. What a tough nut fearless nut, you would want him in the trenches with you,” Brian McKenna.
“Alan Ezard was much like St. Kilda's Milne today, and almost as annoying to the opposition. I think he would give Johnson a very hard time. Hardwick would blanket Dunell hands down. I reckon Roger in the form he was in 1984 would just win out over Dustin – just,” Kris Bayne
