Essendon Football Club is delighted to welcome back Essendon Club Legend Kevin Sheedy when he formally attends the Hall of Fame Induction and 2011 Season Launch, on Tuesday 15 March, at Crown Palladium.

The evening will see two of the club’s greatest heroes reunite when Kevin Sheedy honours James Hird by officially inducting him as Essendon Football Club’s 21st Hall of Fame Legend.

'Sheeds' and 'Hirdy' have enjoyed a long-standing football partnership and personal friendship which has included the 1993 and 2000 Premierships and Hird’s memorable Brownlow and Norm Smith medal wins.

Hird was drafted at pick 79 in the 1990 National Draft and made his senior debut in 1992.
In 1994, Hird won the first of his five Essendon Football Club Best and Fairest medals. By 1998, Hird was appointed as the Bombers captain, and led the Essendon team to a Premiership in 2000. With a number of All-Australian honours and a string of Crichton Medals added to his name, 'Hirdy' is a significantly adored fan favourite figure at the Essendon Football Club.

In 2002, Hird was ranked the third best Essendon player of all time by the Club committee. On March 15, 2011 will see Hird inducted as a Club Legend alongside all-time greats such as Dick Reynolds, John Coleman, Bill Hutchison and more recently Simon Madden, Tim Watson, Kevin Sheedy and Michael Long.

Hird, who now follows in the coaching footsteps of Sheedy at Essendon, will be inducted as the Club’s 21st Hall of Fame Legend. The evening will also see three former Essendon players inducted as Hall of Fame Members.
