Bendigo Bombers coach Adrian Hickmott says the Queen’s Birthday match against the Box Hill Hawks will be tough but not impossible for his young side to win.

With a number of Essendon players likely to be promoted from the VFL into the AFL side this week, Hickmott said greater responsibility will fall upon Andrew Welsh to lead the young side.

“Andrew Welsh will play his second game for Bendigo and will take over a lot of responsibility in terms of leadership. I know Welsh is really hard hitting on the ball and we saw that from him last week,” Hickmott said.

Hickmott said he would not underestimate the ability of the Hawks' line-up as the Bombers search for their first win of the season.

“They’re a good side and they move the ball well when you give them enough room,"" he said.

""We’re going to have to make sure we’re on our guard and that our defensive actions are up.""

The Bendigo Bombers side will be finalised on Saturday following a group training session at Windy Hill.

The game kicks off at 2pm, Monday 8 June at Windy Hill.
