Four-time premiership coach Kevin Sheedyhas remembered former Essendon premiership player Merv Neagle as a ‘brilliantfootballer’ and ‘real character’.
Sheedy said Neagle, a member of the 1984premiership side, was a great person to have around the football club during histime in charge.
“I was lucky enough to coach Merv and hewas not only a brilliant footballer but was a real character and a highlyrespected teammate and friend to many people,” Sheedy said.
‘Merv was a tenacious, hard running playerand his courage and toughness were typical of Essendon teams of that era.
“He had a great physicality for a wingmanand was a terrific kick for goal on the run.”
Neagle who has been coaching the WallaWalla Football Club seniors in New South Wales became a popular figure incountry football following his retirement.
“He also have a lot back to countryfootball after he retired and along with Tim Watson was one of the finestplayers to come out of Dimboola,” Sheedy said.
“Merv has left us all too soon but has leftthose who knew him with many great memories.
“I want to pass on my sincere condolencesto Merv’s family during this very sad time. My thoughts are with his wifeDonna, children and all his relative and friends.”
