It is the Match of the Century as far as Essendon fans are concerned – the brilliant 1984 Premiership side versus the all-conquering 2000 Premiership side.

The time has come to answer the question that comes up every time Bomber fans convene to talk all things Essendon. Which is the greatest Premiership side of the modern era?

Today at essendonfc.com.au, the Match of the Century has been launched. Over the next seven weeks we will be asking Essendon fans – or football fans for the matter – to decide who would win such a clash. It is all a part of the club’s 25-year celebration of the 1984/85 back-to-back Premierships.

Each week three match ups from the Match of the Century will go live. The challenge for fans is to adjudicate on who would win each match up. Would Baker be too good for Misiti? Who would you want – Hird or Watson? It is a game where the fans will sit in judgement and it will put their knowledge to the test.

The player voted the winner in the eyes of the fans, will earn their side a goal. The other side will earn one point. In week one, we ask fans to vote on the following:

Mark Johnson v Alan Ezard

Dustin Fletcher v Roger Merrett

Damian Hardwick v Frank Dunnell
