Essendon’s injury list is finally on the decline. Fitness coach John Quinn is expecting Joe Misiti (knee), Andrew Welsh (bruised knee) and Mark Alvey (bruised ribs) to all be available this week. The news is also good for utility Dean Rioli. Quinn said Rioli’s recovery program is working well and he is only one to two weeks away. ""This is probably the best availability that we have had almost all year,"" Quinn said.

Rioli re-injured his hamstring in the Round 18 match against Port Adelaide. He has been running since last week and Quinn said the intensity of Rioli’s rehabilitation program will further increase this week. ""He is just doing straight line running at the moment, but no ball work yet. He is training at 85% intensity at the moment and responding well,"" Quinn said.

Andrew Welsh was a late withdrawal from the Round 20 match against Collingwood. The 21-year-old didn’t train last week, but Quinn said he will be back on the track this week. ""His knee was pretty sore last week, but we expect that he will get up for this week,"" he said.

Matthew Allan has missed the past two matches with a knee injury. Allan has been spending a bit of time running on the D-load harness in the gym. Quinn said the D-load machine helps players maintain their aerobic fitness. ""The players use all the same muscles but they don’t have any of the weight going through the joints.

""Matthew is also running and doing some work on the bike and in the pool. We will just take our time with him and within another week we will have him running off lines. The week after that he should be involved in skills again,"" Quinn said.

Sean Wellman returned to field last weekend in the VFL. The Bomber veteran had missed the past eight weeks with an ongoing hamstring injury. Wellman was solid in the Bendigo Bombers’ 30-point win and will push up for senior selection this week. ""We were absolutely rapt that Sean got through the game, especially since it was arctic temperatures at Windy Hill on Saturday,"" Quinn said.
