It was almost a mirror image of last week’s result at The Dome tonight. A poor first quarter cost Essendon the match. St Kilda sprinted out to a 26-point lead at the first change and forced the Bombers to play catch-up footy from then on. Essendon fought hard but couldn’t cover the loss of James Hird, Sean Wellman, Dustin Fletcher, Scott Lucas and Dean Rioli, who were all sidelined with injuries. St Kilda won by 35-points and inflicted Essendon’s fourth defeat in five matches.
