First round draft selection Elliott Kavanagh is looking forward to the season ahead, following his first game for the club on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, who was pick 19 in the national draft, was pleased to be able to get his debut game at AFL level out of the way.

“I was obviously pretty nervous,” Kavanagh said.

“I really noticed that it was a physical contest and I’m looking forward to hopefully getting out on the field and mixing in with it all during the home-and-away season.

“The game was very quick and I can imagine with the season it is only going to get quicker.”

Despite losing to West Coast and Fremantle on the weekend, Kavanagh said the NAB Cup gives the group the chance to practice what they have learnt over the summer.

""There is more that we need to work on but it is early stages and the NAB Cup is a good chance for the team to put in place what we’ve learnt over the pre-season,” he said.

“I’m really excited to see what the season has in store and ready to hit the ground running.”
