BOMBERS HOME AT THE DOME THIS WEEKEND
Essendon will face the sternest test in football this Saturday night when it takes on Brisbane at The Dome in its Wizard Cup quarter final. Essendon was sensational in energy-sapping conditions last Friday night in Darwin, getting over a full strength Fremantle to advance to Round 2 of the competition for the first time in three seasons. The winner of this Saturday night's match will play the winner of the St Kilda v Richmond quarter final in a semi-final.

Victory will be no easy task for the Bombers. Brisbane, led superbly by Jonathon Brown at centre half forward, was awesome in comfortably defeating Hawthorn at York Park in Launceston today. The likely Scott Lucas - Brown match up shapes as a highlight of this weekend's match.
Essendon's side will be strengthened this weekend with the probable return of Dean Rioli, Adam Ramanauskas and possibly Matthew Allan. Saturday night will also be a great chance for the Essendon faithful to get behind the team in a pre-season match that matters for the first time since the 2000 pre-season.
Andrew Welsh was one of the standouts for the Bombers in last night’s eight-point win over Fremantle in the opening round of the Wizard Cup in Darwin. And the statistics didn’t lie at the end of the game. Welsh collected a game-high 21 possessions. His night included three hard ball gets, five losse ball gets, three clearances at stoppoages and eight times he rebounded the ball outside the defensive 50m. It was an outstanding night out. Statistics from last night's win are attached.
