Essendon assistant coach Sean Wellman says there is still plenty of hard work ahead of the players as the group continues its preparations for the 2012 season.
Wellman, in charge of the defensive group at the club, has pinpointed a number of key areas in which the team is looking to improve ahead of the upcoming season.
""There is no doubt that for us to get to the level we want to get to, we need to be bigger and stronger and to be able to run out games,” he said.
“We felt that there were times last year, particularly against the better teams, when we struggled in those areas.”
Wellman is confident the team can improve on last season, with a strong platform already set during the off season.
“We have been able to power a lot of work into the guys pre-Christmas and get them to a stage where we have laid a pretty good foundation,” Wellman said.
“But we are well aware that we have still got a long way to go and we will continue the hard work now that the players have returned from their break.""
Essendon Football Club will travel to Maryborough, Castlemaine and Kyneton for the 2012 Australia Post Community Camp on February 6 and 7. As part of the two day camp, the club will conduct training sessions, visit local schools and take part in a number of community visits.
