Angus Monfries has revealed his decision toleave Essendon was a tough one that took him many ‘sleepless nights’ to make.
The 25-year-old forward was traded to PortAdelaide for pick 48 in the draft during the opening day of the AFL tradeperiod on Monday.
Monfries said it was not an easy decisionto leave the Bombers after eight seasons at the club.
“I had a lot of sleepless nights thinkingabout what I was going to do,” Monfries said.
“At the end of the day I will have thefriends I have made at Essendon for life and I want to thank Essendon foreverything they have done for me as a footy club.”
The lure to play football in his home statecloser to family and friends ended up being the decisive factor in Monfries decision-making.
“To come home and be closer to my friendsand family was a massive factor in me making the move,” he said.
“Essendon are a great club and I wish themall the best but I think it was the best thing for me and my career to move toPort Adelaide.”
Essendon currently holds selections 32, 48,51,69,87,105 and 123 in the National Draft on November 22.
