Essendon rookie, Bryce Carroll is looking forward to meeting some of his football heroes when he commences training with the team in January.

A Bomber supporter growing up, Carroll couldn’t believe his luck when Essendon selected the 185cm midfielder with selection five in the rookie draft.

“It is fantastic to be at Essendon,” Carroll said.

“I couldn’t ask for a better club to come to. I barracked for Essendon growing up so I am very proud to be at the club.

“I looked up to James Hird growing up and I can’t wait to play alongside guys like Brent Stanton and Andrew Welsh on the footy field.

Formerly of the Western Jets, Carroll compares rates his playing style as similar to that of Essendon midfielder Brent Stanton.

“I think the way he provides run off the half back is similar to the way I play,” Carroll said.

“He also his ability to play various positions which is similar to myself.”

Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro describes Carroll as a classy ball winner with good ball sense.
