Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
We think we know what Joel Reynolds is going to be and that is why Sheeds has given him a lot of games. It is probably fair to say that at times Joel took game time off other players such as a Cory McGrath. Joel was hampered by a debilitating groin injury, which came on as the season went on. That is already been fixed up and he is back training. He needs to continue to put weight on, but ability and attitude is unquestioned. We have pumped 23 games into him, which means we expect a reward because we have overlooked other players. So there is a little bit of pressure on him to reward the selectors long-term vision and payback for a lot of games he got, but probably didn't deserve on form.
What some of fan’s had to say:
I though he played good and consistent football in the matches he played. However, it was a bit disappointing about his injury...hopefully we can get 22 games out of him next year. Leigh Geale
Started to show some of his talent. Injury stopped him after he was starting to cement his spot in the side. Should have a big 2004. Tara Murray
A few games this year forecast this kid's future: He is going to be a pretty valuable and dangerous player. Some spearing passes, some courageous efforts, some very clean very tall marks, good general awareness and a terrific top speed (although not yet the explosive acceleration) are hopefully all signs of an evolving player. Damon Beckwith
I am a big fan of this young player. Joel had a pretty good game against Geelong, unfortunately it was one of his last, if not his last game after osteitus pubis forced an end to his season. The sky is the limit for Joel and all Bomber fans will be looking forward to watching his development during his career. Lachlan Rohde
Exciting youngster for our side, pity he missed last few games of the season due to injury, hopefully he can bounce back in season 2004 and improve on this year, best of luck to him. Dion Gats
Joel made great improvements in 2003, however it was the injury that let him down. Essendon supporters should expect Joel to play the majority of games in 2004 and be a force. Essendon needs nun through its midfield and players like Joel, Winderich will improve this weakness. Christopher Thorpe
Has shown he can play well ,has good disposal. Must perform well next season to hold his position. He will get better and seems keen enough. Alan Milne
Very skilful player who shown promise in the first half of the season. Winger or half back at this stage of his career. David Whiting
