With a number of players performing well in the Bendigo Bombers’ 37-point win against Geelong on Saturday, Sheedy said there is five to six players that are in the selection mix for this week’s must win clash against Collingwood. The master coach wouldn’t speculate if he would opt for youth over experience with the players he brings in.
Mark Mercuri has been in Bendigo’s best players for the past two weeks. The Bomber veteran collected 31 possessions on Saturday and booted two goals. He followed up his best on ground performance from the following week where he finished with four majors. Sheedy did comment that Mercuri has been in fantastic form and is definitely in contention for a senior berth.
Sheedy also put midfielders Jason Winderlich and Marc Bullen in the mix for selection as well as defender Sam Hunt. ""Sam has been unlucky this year. I would like to see him get a game between now and round 22.""
Sheedy is hopeful gun full forward Matthew Lloyd will be available to play against Collingwood. Lloyd bruised his shoulder after a heavy fall midway through the third quarter of Saturday’s match. Sheedy said that Lloyd has mobility in the shoulder area and can move his arm above his head, which is a good sign at this stage.
""Matthew is getting treatment today and he will get treatment all week. Hopefully he will play for us. We are pretty confident that we will get him up,"" Sheedy said.
Sheedy said that his side has entered a three-week finals period and needs to win at least two of its final three games to be any chance of making the finals. ""Our players have got to lift, it is as simple as that and make sure we can play a better and harder game than that. We did that the previous week and we played very, very well.""
