Hird again requested that he and his family be left alone in the short term to enable him to fully recuperate from the surgery to enable him to return to Melbourne.
“I’m feeling a lot better and recovering well and looking forward to getting back to normal living,” he said.
“The support has been absolutely amazing. Everyone from the Essendon Club to the hundreds of phone calls from friends and well wishes has been really appreciated.”
Essendon skipper James Hird was released from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital early this afternoon. Hird will take up residence in Perth for at least the next week with wife Tania and daughter Stephanie. Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson said at this stage it is not known how long it will be before Hird can fly home. “We will wait and see what the doctors say – no final arrangements have been made. The positive news is James is recovering well and in good spirits,” Jackson said. The club will keep Essendon supporters informed when more news is available.
