""There is definitely more responsibility placed onto your shoulders. You get a lot of the young guys looking up to you now and I suppose being given a title, it makes you realise you are a senior player,"" Johnson said.
""It not so much about yourself, it’s more about the team, directing the younger players and showing them the way. You have got to step away from thinking about yourself and think about them.
It’s a role that Johnson says is learning more about each day.
""I’m not a really big speaker but that is something I have got to cope with. I know the things I can say might be good but I just don’t say them,"" he said.
""I think you can think about it too much. I tend to sit there and analyse what I want to say. By the time you say it you’ve stuffed it up or someone else has come out and said it. I have got to learn that if I think of something, say it straight away.
Johnson said that having leaders around the club like James Hird and Matthew Lloyd is certainly a learning curve for his own leadership skills.
""Hirdy just said that if I think of anything then go and tell him. He’s not afraid to change things up and have a listen to what you’ve got to say. If you think its right then say it basically,"" Johnson said.
The Bombers will be looking for Johnson to continue his midfield consistency and show all the traits of a future leader as Essendon makes its charge towards September action.
