Knights: We must believe we can win
<div>
Matthew Knights says self belief is the key if the Bombers are to get over the top of a red-hot Geelong side this Sunday.
Knights said he has not forgotten the belting Geelong handed to the Bombers last season and hopes they can redeem themselves by playing to the best of their ability on the weekend.
“I can still remember sitting up in the coaches box, they moved the ball swiftly, hit targets on the lead and were generally awesome,” Knights said.
“Last year we went into the game- we weren’t intimidated but we still got cleaned up. They were just an awesome footy team with awesome skills. They win the ball and they make you pay.
“Geelong have been superbly consistent, they just keep on coming and playing strong consistent footy. We need to be hungry and energetic early - there is no greater challenge in footy to play the Geelong Football Club.
“I don’t think Geelong is a team that you can rush and just turn the ball over because they are so good on the counter attack. We need to make sure we get that right balance on Sunday to give ourselves an opportunity to win.""
The Bombers might go into the game against Geelong as long-shots, but Knights isn’t letting it worry him and wants his young group of players to believe in themselves and focus on playing their own game style.
“I said to the guys today in the team meeting it is important that we keep playing to our maximum and keep executing our game style,"" Knights said.
“We are trying to engender into this young group, that you must believe you can win every game that you play otherwise there is no point in running out. We are trying to believe we can win every game we play.
“We can only play and hit our high levels of football and hope that is good enough. We’ll just see what happens on Sunday; our players aren’t intimidated and are looking forward to the challenge that presents.”
