Essendon midfielder Brent Stanton has described the Bombers' courageous come-from-behind victory against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Friday night as one of the most memorable of his career.
The Bombers slumped to a 36-point half-time deficit before clawing their way back into the contest in a thrilling second half, kicking nine of the last 10 goals and finishing eventual 11-point winners.
""It's one of the best wins I've been involved in,"" Stanton said following the Bombers' triumph.
""We haven't had the best record over here. The way that the guys fought out the game in that second half was fantastic.""
The victory was just the Bombers' seventh at the venue and their first in four years.
Essendon has built an unwanted reputation as one of the worst travelling sides in the competition in recent times, with their last win outside Victoria prior to this season coming back in round 15 of 2009 against Sydney at the SCG.
But Stanton feels this perception is beginning to change this year following wins over the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba in round eight and Adelaide at West Lakes on Friday night.
""We are a developing side and we want to keep on winning these games interstate because it's an important part of playing football and an area that we need to improve on,"" he said.
""We've won two out of four. It's a great credit to this football club.""
Stanton has also been forced to battle his own demons this season after copping jeers from the black and red army at times during Essendon's mid-season slump when the Bombers dropped five consecutive matches.
Sections of Essendon supporters unjustifiably painted Stanton as the scapegoat behind the team's poor form.
But the 25-year-old star has shown a steely resolve in recent weeks and capped it off with an impressive performance against the Crows, registering a team-high seven clearances, six tackles and 24 disposals.
""I just keep working my way through games of footy,"" Stanton told essendonfc.com.au.
""The coaches have been fantastic and the playing group as well. I'll put my head down and keep working and try to improve as a player and I think that's the basics of football.""
