Premiership stars Matthew Lloyd, Scott Lucas, Jason Johnson, Chris Heffernan, Sean Wellman and premiership captain James Hird have urged Essendon supporters to join them and make a donation to the fundraising initiative.

Taking part in a special video for Bomber TV, the players also relived their memories from the 2000 grand final victory.

Mathew Lloyd, Essendon's all time leading goal kicker, said it was a special day for the club and the fans.

“Winning that premiership was a day I’ll never forget,” Lloyd said.

“I remember thinking this is what football is all about – celebrating with the supporters who love the club so much.”

Captain James Hird, who returned to the club as senior coach in 2011, said it was a significant moment in Essendon history.

“It was a culmination of all our hard work and it took us a long time to get the premiership,” Hird said.

“It was amazing for the club, the players, the supporters, and our families – it’s what we play football for.”

The Flight Plan initiative has raised more than $600,000 but is still well short of the $3 million target.

Chris Heffernan, who now sits on the Essendon Board, said the new High Performance Centre would help the club return to the top and its former glory.

“I think this club and its fans deserve success,” Heffernan said.

“We need to give the current players the best chance to deliver Essendon another premiership.”
