""I have played predominantly in the ruck for the past couple of years, but I also enjoy playing up forward and kicking a few goals,"" Laycock said.
Q. You came over from Tassie for the draft. When it all got underway on Sunday were you nervous?
A. I was a little bit nervous, but I wasn't too bad.
Q. What were your first feelings when recruitment manager Adrian Dodoro read out your name as the Bombers' first draft selection?
A. Relief and happiness. I was a bit nervous and scared as well.
Q. Did you expect to be drafted by the Bombers?
A. I didn't at first. Adrian (Dodoro) rang me up on Saturday night and said the Bombers were interested in me, so when Essendon had its first pick, I was hoping they would read my name out. So when they did I was rapt.
Q. What does it mean to you to get drafted by Essendon Football Club?
A. It is fantastic. It is such a great and successful club.
Q. Have you met anyone from the club yet?
A. I met Sheeds and the assistant coaches at the draft on Sunday, which was good. I am flying over from Tassie tomorrow and coming to the club, so I will meet everyone tomorrow. I am looking forward to it!
Q. What team did you barrack for as a kid?
A. Geelong - but not anymore!
Q. Living in Tasmania, you would have been prepared to move interstate if you were drafted. Are you happy to be drafted by a Melbourne team?
A. Definitely - it is only an hour from home.
Q. Have you been training during the off-season?
A. I have started pre-season training with the Tasmania VFL side, so I have kept in reasonable shape.
