Despite two impressive wins in the NAB Cup, Bomber assistant coach Brendan McCartney says Essendon will face its biggest test of the pre-season against St Kilda on Friday night.

“There is a lot more tests to come and we get a big one against St Kilda” McCartney told Bomber TV.

“The players have performed well and are buying into the team and are happy to do things for their teammates which I think our supporters are enjoying how competitive they’ve been”

McCartney admits the players are still adapting to the Bombers new style, but says there is more to football than just game plans.

“I think it is important to understand there is lots of talk about game plans but we talk more about the way we want to play, and the set ups that will help us to endure through tough periods in games and help us be more competitive over a longer period of time, especially against big bodied teams.” he said.

“We want to improve the team and get our boys better and more mature out on the ground and more able to handle themselves in larger games.""
