Champion jockey Jim Cassidy was today officially made an honorary member of the Essendon Football Club.

The Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate - winning jockey has recently relocated from Sydney to Melbourne and it hasn't taken him long to find his way to Windy Hill.

Essendon coach, an avid horse racing fan, presented Cassidy with an Essendon jumper, a cap and his membership badge for 2000 at the end of today's training session.

He then introduced Cassidy to the players before showing him around the club's outstanding Hall Of Fame.

Cassidy said he was only too happy to be associated with the Bombers.

"It is one of Australia's great sporting clubs and I am thrilled to be associated with it," Cassidy said.

"I went to the opening match at Colonial Stadium and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll get along to as many games as I can this season."

And judging by Cassidy's kicking skills after training, he might have made a fairly handy rover had he been brought up on AFL football instead of horses.
