The Long Walk is celebrating 100 Years of the Territory and over 50,000 years of Indigenous achievement.

This year, The Long Walk is proud to partner with the Northern Territory Government to present The Long Walk 2011 and celebrate the Northern Territory’s 100th birthday.

Michael Long is one of the Northern Territory’s many success stories and The Long Walk will help celebrate over 50,000 years of NT stories across its events in 2011, including The Long Walk to Dreamtime at the ‘G, the AFL’s annual upcoming match between Richmond and Essendon on Saturday 21 May.

Patron of The Long Walk Trust, Michael Long and Statehood Minister, Malarndirri McCarthy announced the partnership to present this unique event in Darwin recently.

Michael Long said that there are strong linkages between the Territory and The Long Walk, especially with the charity’s growing activity in Darwin.

“I’m a proud Territorian and The Long Walk raises awareness for Indigenous wellbeing,” he said.

“2011 is an important year for the Northern Territory, and our partnership with the Government will help share the Territory’s birthday and history with the rest of Australia.”

Minister McCarthy also recognised the strength of the partnership was the ability to share the Northern Territory’s history and future vision with The Long Walk’s supporters nationally.

“Michael Long is a high profile Territorian who is committed to working to overcome poverty and disadvantage in Indigenous communities and I am very proud to have The Long Walk Trust in partnership with us to celebrate the Territory’s Centenary year,” said Minister McCarthy.

To open the partnership and to share the celebrations with all Australians the NT Government is presenting The Long Walk 2011 in Melbourne on 21 May and Darwin on 28 May. This is your last change to register for The Long Walk 2011 in Melbourne. Click here to sign up now.
