All parties have agreed there are benefits in retaining a Bendigo football team in the Football Victoria competition and are working towards establishing a basis to achieve this outcome. As part of the discussions the Essendon Football Club, Bendigo Diggers and Football Victoria have compromised their position to meet the request of the Bendigo Football League and its affiliate clubs that the new Bendigo entity will not field a reserve team in the Football Victoria competition to ensure the Bendigo Football League is in fact not weakened but strengthened.
The City of Greater Bendigo has been briefed and is comfortable with the progress of these discussions. The Essendon Football Club and Football Victoria have set a deadline of Wednesday October 9 to have formal documentation completed.
