In one of the most anticipated cricket events of the year, Essendon Football Club and the all conquering Australian Test cricketers will do battle in a six-a-side cricket match at Windy Hill on Wednesday, December 22nd.

Organised by 3 mobile to celebrate their sponsorship of both teams, and the beginning of the Boxing Day Test, the six-a-side showdown will see some of the biggest names in Australian sport go head-to-head.

The likes of Warne, Gilchrist and Hayden will take on Hird and Lloyd in a one hour cricket match. It will be a critical workout for the Australian cricketers just four days out from the Boxing Day Test and a special set of rules will ensure it is a competitive game

""We will get the boys down to the nets next week and have a look at them before settling on the final team,"" Essendon’s Matthew Lloyd said.

""We will have a look at the wicket prior to the game and decide whether we will go with Dean Solomon’s leg spin or the sheer pace of Adam McPhee. It will be a tough decision.""

The Essendon team is yet to be finalised but James Hird, Lloyd, Jason Johnson and Damian Cupido are certain starters.

Essendon Captain James Hird says ""the six-a-side match will be great fun for participants and spectators alike. It’s not everyday that you can play a game of cricket against the best players in the country. I’m just glad the rules will be handicapped so we have a chance to win,"" he said.

""The more spectator support we get the better so we’d love footy and cricket fans alike to go to their nearest 3 Shop to collect a free set of cricket cheersticks to cheer us on at Windy Hill on the 22nd.. They can then take their cheersticks to the MCG on Boxing Day and cheer on the boys when they take on the Pakistanis."" Hird added.

The match at Windy Hill is also a way of reminding cricket fans that they can catch all the latest cricket news and near live video highlights via 3 mobile, for both the 3 mobile Test Series and the One Day Internationals this summer.

Entry to the 3 mobile Six-a-Side Showdown is FREE and gates will open at 12.30pm. Food and beverages will be available.

The match commentary team will include former Australian opening bowler Damien Fleming while the umpires will be Australian coach John Buchanan and former Essendon champion Joe Misiti.

Those attending will also have the opportunity to get autographs signed by members of both teams.
