Many players have made significant contribution to the proud history of the Essendon Football Club but not all have been rewarded with Premiership success. In fact the years between 1965 and 1983 comprised the longest period the club has gone without bringing the Premiership Cup back to Windy Hill.

This is not to say this was a period devoid of great players. On the contrary, the Bombers were home to some of the stars of the competition during this period. The fact the ultimate prize eluded them in no ways lessens their contribution to the club.

So to pay tribute to these players, the Dick Reynolds Club third and final luncheon for 2006 will celebrate the important contribution of these players to the club. The Dreamteam of the Drought Years lunch will see former coaches – Barry Davis, Des Tuddenham, Bill Stephen and John Birt – unveil their best line-up of players from that era who never tasted Premiership success.

It will be a side that would have pushed some of Essendon’s best. It is sure to include names such as 264-player Ken Fletcher along with the likes of Robin Close, Ron Andrews, Alan Noonan and Neville Fields. Come along and reward these past players for all they have given to the Club when times were tough.
