Essendon Football Club has officially launched its 2010 membership campaign – THIS IS ESSENDON – at a function at Windy Hill.
The launch included the first official screening of an emotive video that identifies with everything it means to follow Essendon.
Club CEO Ian Robson said the 2010 campaign reflects the exciting time Essendon is currently going through.
“It is all about our red and black colours which are displayed by our playing group so proudly today,” Robson said.
“Those red and black colours are our battle armour. They are worn by a legion of fans. It is the blood that pumps through our veins and it is 16 flags and counting.”
For the past decade, Essendon’s membership campaigns have been led by established champions of the club and has featured the likes of James Hird and Matthew Lloyd. However Robson said this year’s campaign focuses on the club’s emerging talent.
“The 2010 campaign highlights a 21-year-old Indigenous talent – a young man by the name of Patrick Ryder who has only played for our club for four seasons,” Robson said.
“We are excited by Paddy and by all of our talent that you see on our list.
“We have a blockbuster fixture in which we play five of last year’s top eight twice, including traditional rivals Carlton, Collingwood and my old friends at Hawthorn and we are genuinely excited by it.”
The Essendon membership video was this morning sent to more than 100,000 supporters nationally.
Football fans across the country are talking about the new batch of recruits to enter their club. The Essendon recuiting staff are extremely pleased with their four selections but are you as excited? This week we ask 'were you happy with Essendon's 2009 National Draft picks'?
