General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the 23-year-old was an outside chance to be available for the blockbuster clash, but the club would be taking a conservative approach to the injury.

“Ultimately, there is no structural or ligament damage which is great news because it was a real concern when it happened,” Hamilton said.

“We will have to wait and see how he does pull up in the next couple of days, but he was in good spirits today.

“He will be an outside chance to line up this week, but it is definitely a wait and see process.”

Hamilton revealed in-form Luke Davis had sustained an ankle injury during Bendigo’s clash against Sandringham yesterday.

“It is really disappointing for Luke because he has been knocking on the door of senior selection and he has been a senior emergency for the past couple of weeks,” Hamilton said.

“Unfortunately, he has sustained an ankle injury and there was swelling this morning. Once the swelling goes down, he will undergo scans to determine the full extent of the injury in the coming days.”

Key position players Michael Hurley and Tayte Pears will undergo fitness testing this week to determine their possible availability for selection.

“They are both possibilities and we would love to see at least one of them back,” Hamilton said.

“However, we are going to do the right thing by them individually and we certainly won’t be risking them.”

The Bombers could welcome back both Mark McVeigh and David Myers for the club’s Saturday night blockbuster clash against ladder leaders West Coast.

“Mark played very well for Bendigo yesterday and David should be fine, so we’re confident they should both be okay given they get through training this week,” Hamilton said.

“We’re playing the top team and a side that has been very impressive lately so we want to see as many supporters and members at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night to get behind the boys.”
