Following the Bombers' impressive victory over Carlton on the weekend, both Essendon and Collingwood face the unqiue situation of a four-day break between games.
General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the team’s recovery was vital leading up to the Anzac Day blockbuster.
“It is a really big test for everyone, because it is a unique and different situation to have only a four-day break between games,” Hamilton said.
“It was a great win (against Carlton) and it was great to play the way we did but you soon forget about that because you have to with the next contest four days away.”
With the club ruling out key forward Michael Hurley, Hamilton said there were a number of players that could be recalled for the clash, pending fitness levels.
“Obviously we are disappointed for Hurls because he is a great player and a super competitor,” he said.
“It would have been foolish to play him this Wednesday but at this stage he is the only one that has been ruled out.
“The likes of Colyer, Dempsey and Carlisle are all possibilities, but they will have to certainly prove their fitness.
”We will see how the guys recover but by tomorrow we will be in a good position to really know what our side will look like.”
Hamilton said the significance of playing on Anzac Day was not lost with the Essendon players.
“We are very proud and privileged to be a part of such a significant day in the Australian calendar,” he said.
“I know the players are incredibly excited for Wednesday and we look forward to what will no doubt be another fierce contest.”
