The latest Bomberland Weekly Poll has found that Essendon supporters on the whole are pleased with the present round robin format of the Ansett Cup competition. Of the 962 votes collated, 621 people said the recently introduced round robin format was better than the previous knockout format - 341 people wanted to see the competition return to the old format. Debate over the Ansett Cup format was recently iginited by suggestions that a knockout competition ensured more competitive games.
Late in the competition a number of games were very lop-sided with side's no longer in finals' contention leaving most of their stars on the sidelines. It was something that was avoided in a knockout competition.
Andrew from Penrith was representative of many comments we received on the latest poll. ""It should stay as a round robin because it gives coaches three serious games to assess their players and recruits,"" Andrew said.
Lynton Head from Wheelers Hill agreed. ""The round robin competition gives every club a chance to streamline their team and get valuable practice in order to give us, the viewing public, a better spectacle once the season starts proper. The supporter is the ultimate winner,"" Lynton said.
However Scott Young from Cranbourne believes the previous format was better. ""The knockout format was much better - particularly when games were played at AFL / VFL Park!!!""
This week's poll wants to know who Essendon supporters think is the best of Channel Seven's commentators - excluding the special comments men.
