Essendon Football Club proudly sponsors the Tiwi Bombers who will now have their second chance at their first NTFL premiership on March 17.
Essendon Community Manager Nick Hannett said the Tiwi Bombers grand final berth would have a significant impact upon the local Tiwi community.
“The Tiwi Bombers have had an incredible impact on the Tiwi community on a number of levels, which run much deeper than just football,” Hannett said.
“There have been many social issues on the Tiwi Islands and the Tiwi Bombers has been a tremendously positive initiative that has assisted in brining the local community together and a tremendous sense of unity and pride.”
The atmosphere at TIO stadium in Darwin will be electric with a crowd of 10,000 people and more than 2000 local Tiwi people expected to make the journey to Darwin to watch their beloved Tiwi Bombers.
The emphatic win over ladder leaders Nightcliff puts the Bombers into their second grand final after losing the 2009-10 final against St. Mary’s.
Hannett said the Club’s partnership with the local community in the Tiwi Islands was extremely important.
“Essendon is proud to sponsor the Tiwi Bombers and have officially been involved in game development and school programs on the Tiwi Islands for five years now,” he said.
