General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said both Lovett-Murray and new recruit Nicholas O’Brien would play in the VFL game.
“Those guys will get their opportunity to get some game time this weekend which is exciting for both of them,” Hamilton told BomberTV.
“It’s an exciting time, it feels like a long pre-season but we have won our last two NAB Cup games which generates a bit more excitement.”
Scans to an ankle injury suffered by Michael Ross revealed slight ligament damage, following the club’s VFL practice match on the weekend.
“Michael hurt his ankle which was a bit unfortunate because he has been playing well,” Hamilton said.
“We do not think it is particularly serious. We were initially concerned it was a break but the good news is that isn’t the case and it is only ligament damage.”
Hamilton said the club was pleased to get through the pre-season campaign without suffering any serious injuries.
“We are all really looking forward to Saturday night against North Melbourne in two weeks time,” Hamilton said.
“North are playing some really good football so it should be a ripper game and the players, support staff and supporters are really keen to get this year underway.”
Essendon forward Stewart Crameri is excited about working in tandem with key forward Michael Hurley this season. Crameri said he was looking forward to lining up next to Hurley in 2012 after the pair combined for seven goals in the Bombers 56 point win over Brisbane in the NAB Cup on Saturday.
