Vander Haar had been dominating the game before 'Dermie' cleaned him up with a brutal shirtfront.

""He got me a beauty and that's the way the game was played,"" Vander Haar said in the latest episode of Life After Footy.

But the man nicknamed 'The Flying Dutchman' doesn't hold a grudge against Brereton for ironing him out.

""I don't see any bad things about it,"" Vander Haar said.

""That's the way the game was.

""I was the unfortunate one on the wrong end of it.""

These days Vander Haar runs a very successful pool and spa business that services much of southern Victoria.

And, as he revealed with a chuckle, he actually built a pool and spa for Brereton some years later.

Renowned as a loveable larrikin when he was taking big marks in the VFL, Vander Haar told Life After Footy about the highlights of his playing days.

He also spoke about that fact he's still close to many of his Essendon teammates, especially blokes like Terry Daniher and Bryan Wood, who he plays tennis with on Tuesday nights.
