Essendon moved into the final of the St John Cricket Cup with a convincing six-wicket win in yesterday's semi-final against the Western Bulldogs.

Played in perfect conditions at the Junction Oval, the Bombers finished at 4/171 in reply to the Bulldogs total of 8/170.

Despite the win, Bomber captain Joe Misiti said there was plenty of room for improvement and said a number of players were under pressure to hold their spot in the side.

"Look, it is great to get through to the final but we have a number of blokes we can bring into the side and I wasn't overly impressed with a couple of the guys today," Misiti said.

"John Barnes bowled absolute tripe and his position in the side is under threat. We just can't afford to have blokes produce that sort of garbage.

"The blokes won't want to drop off at training this week or they will be out. I've made tough decisions before and I won't hesitate to make them again."

The Bombers bowled well to the Bulldogs with paul barnard the star collecting three wickets.

Barney was well supported by fellow opening bowler Judd Lalich who collected two wickets. Leg spinner Dean Solomon also picked up two wickets.

The Bombers passed the Bulldogs target with eight overs to spare. Solomon completed an excellent double making 25.

Joe Misiti opened the batting and got 25 while fellow opener and football manager Matthew Drain retired for 30.

Other contributors with the bat included sponsorship manager Chris Caldwell who retired for 30 and Lalich 20.

The Bombers will play in the final against the winner of today's game between North Melbourne and the AFL umpires.
