Essendon has gone down in its past two matches, losing to Brisbane and Melbourne and hopes of a top-four finish will fade dramatically should they go down to the Kangaroos.
""We need more from players like Dustin Fletcher, Joe Misiti and Adam Ramanauskas – Essendon fans need them right now,"" Sheedy said. ""And you can throw David Hille in as well. It is the blokes that we know can play that we need to get more from.""
Dustin Fletcher missed the Bombers match against Melbourne but had a torrid night out the previous week when Brisbane’s Daniel Bradshaw kicked seven goals on him. Hille, Ramanauskas and Misiti managed just six possessions each against the Demons.
""We have been happy with our recruiting and we have some players coming through but it is some of our senior players that can give us some real improvement. They need to blend with the younger players and provide James Hird and Matthew Lloyd with more support,"" he said.
Sheedy said he expected a fierce contest with both sides having plenty to play for. ""I think people can sometimes forget that there is plenty on the line for the opposition as well. You can never forget what position another club is in when you go into combat,"" Sheedy said.
""It was the Kangaroos that cost us a top-four spot last season. If we can win tomorrow night we will have taken a big step towards nailing a finals’ spot.""
Sheedy nominated former Kangaroo captain Anthony Stevens as a key player in tomorrow night’s match.
""Stevens has been an under-rated player for them this season – he is playing very, very well. And I also think young Daniel Harris has been good and given them some spark through the midfield.""
